Definition

Even though ‘procrastination’ is a wide-spread disease it looks to me that only a few persons can name it. So I’ll start with a definition:

Wikipedia explains it as follows (German terms “Aufschieben, Bummelei“):

Procrastination is the practice of carrying out less urgent tasks in preference to more urgent ones, or doing more pleasurable things in place of less pleasurable ones, and thus putting off impending tasks to a later time, sometimes to the “last minute” before the deadline.

Furthermore, reasons people procrastinate are given as

  • avoid negative emotions
  • delay stressful tasks
  • believe to work better under pressure
  • anxiety to start or finish a tasks
